Work / A smart city, explained
A smart city, explained.
A hybrid 2D/3D animation for Msheireb Downtown Doha — visualising the district's smart-city water infrastructure in a single calm visual loop for the visitor centre and stakeholder briefings.
· Overview
The brief
Smart-city infrastructure is only interesting when something goes wrong. Msheireb's water system — reservoir, district cooling, home tap, drain, recovery — is invisible to residents by design, which makes it hard to show off at an investor walkthrough.
We animated the full loop as a single continuous flow, blending 3D architectural passes with 2D system diagrams. Calm, cinematic, technical without being dry.

How we worked
01 — Consult the engineers
Sat with Msheireb's utilities team before a frame was drawn.
02 — One system thread
The whole loop reads as one line, not a carousel of diagrams.
03 — Hybrid technique
3D for the architecture, 2D overlays for data — handshook by shared palette and lighting.
04 — Venue-ready
Mastered for the visitor centre's ultra-wide, trimmed for stakeholder decks and the corporate YouTube.
· Design system
The colours.
Desert sand, treated-water blue, and the green of the collection tanks — the palette of a city built to recycle every drop.
